A term often used by plastic artist that refers to the study of the human body, but we will use it as a reference for all kind of arts; fine arts, comic, manga, anime, cartoon, etc. The term "Canon" was developed in the study done by Leanoardo da Vinci.

Use guide lines! |
The use of forms and lines |
Most time when one try to draw a creature, we make the mistake of not researching it. Making comparisons make the work a lot easier and is really important to make a study or just have a good amount of reference that can help us understand how the creature moves and acts. That way we avoid having characters that look plain and lifeless.
Another tip I would like to recommend is the use of references. Don't be afraid to use them, as long as you use them as a tool and do not try to copy the exact reference you are using, there is nothing to be afraid of.

The head is one of the most important aspects that we need to master as soon as we can, as the study of bodies relies heavily on this aspect. It also help us make an accurate estimation of the character height and weight on the real world. The "head" can be symbolized by :
- Half a Circle
- A Circle
- Or any other figure you would like to use
How to use the "head" |
Geometrical forms or guidelines will be a powerful tool for us to create our characters, since everything is connected in a way that forms an structure and that is what we are looking for.
Creating an structures our characters can be built on.
The creation of "Canon" |
Remember that your creations is an actual being! It doesn't matter if it's the character for a long or short story; a simple sketch you make for a presentation or something similar. Don't take it lightly!!
Let's Draw! |
