Inking is the process were we add detail to our previous sketches, since we can't present a Manga looking like this right?
Not Manga Material...yet |
The inking part can be done digitally and it does save times, though personally we prefer doing it the traditional way adding the inking manually and then add the effects digitally.
Inking the old style~ |
Inking in the traditional style involves 2 parts, the alpha line (also known as line art) and the beta line.
- Alpha Line
The Alpha Line is the general line that is added with the Nib-Pens, mostly consisting of adding form and details to the characters, backgrounds and objects in every panel of our Manga.
Fine point pens and Ink is used |
Ruler and other tools are used to add detail to previously sketched works |
The can is not really necessary tho.. |
- Beta Line
The Beta Line consist of adding black color to the areas that need them, such as the characters hair, shadows ,dark areas or backgrounds and effects such as blood or others.
Mangaka's mark the areas that needs beta with an X or... other type of mark |
Once the Beta Line is applied |
Despise being quite simple, the inking part is one of the most long and sometimes tedious parts in the process of creating a Manga, since the ink can be problematic while working some people prefer to do this process digitally as I mentioned before.
But we recommend combining both the digital and traditional work since the finished work is of higher quality and it does not require a drawing tablet. I'm not saying digital work can't look good, just that the quality of both styles is better in my humble opinion.
Well that concludes this post about the inking process, but before I finish I would like to also mention that white ink or any other type of corrector is needed while inking since accidents may happen(also be prepare to get covered in ink as well).
As always I welcome all of you to leave your thought or questions in our comment section down below. This is Kyou whishing you all a nice day and don't forget to check DMS for more Doujins and Art!
